The issue of Women in Islam has always been a hot topic from the perspective of the Non-Muslims, and it carries with it many misconceptions. Is Islam a male dominated religion, where women are "second class"? If not, then why do women always have to be behind men? Would God really force women to cover themselves up? How can Islam advocate the barbaric practice of female cirumcision? These are the typical concerns posed by those questioning the religion of Islam. There is a great need to have these questions addressed. However, in order to represent Islam in the proper way, knowledgeable Muslim experts of Islam must be consulted. This is a live recording of a presentation given at the University of Texas at Austin. The main goal of this lecture is to clarify for the Non-Muslim audience many of the most common misconceptions regarding the status of Women in Islam.
