The Code of Scholars: Usool al-Fiqh is the official recording of an AlMaghrib Institute seminar.  Is eating meat at your local fast-food joint Haram? Allah says so?  How would you know? Shaykh Muhammad explains how scholars identify the sources of Islamic Law, how Halal/Haram are extracted from these sources, and the correct application of this process.  He further details such things as who is it that has  the authorization to approve laws in Islam, how are texts from the Qur'an and Sunnah analyzed, and how apparently contradicting sources are reconciled.  These lectures have been organized to present a vast and intricate subject in a simple and systematic manner.  In a sense, Usool al-Fiqh allows the listener a sneak peak in to the scholars’ bag of tools. The study of Usool al-Fiqh, or the principles of how something becomes law in Islam, is considered to be the “grammer” of Islamic Law.  In this seminar presented over 11 CDs, Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef provides a comprehensive foundation to this amazing science.

Muhammad Alshareef was born and raised in Canada. In his youth, he memorized the Qur’an and later graduated with an Islamic Law degree from the Islamic University of Madinah, class of 1999. He is the founder of AlMaghrib Institute through which he teaches university-level seminars on Islam. AlMaghrib Institute seminars have been established in 15 cities across the USA and Canada.

While he continues to teach, Muhammad Alshareef now devotes much of his time to conducting personal development live events.  How to Master one’s emotions, write a vision for the future, and make one’s goals a reality, are just some of the many topics he has covered. Many important aspects of Islam are portrayed in this lecture series. Not only does one gain beneficial knowledge, but also a sense of the attitude that righteous and pious scholars of Islam have. This CD set is beneficial for casual listening, and also if someone would like to be serious to study and take notes from it. The material covered in this series is part of the basic knowledge that is lacking amongst many Muslims, some who get into heated debates with each other over the wrong discussion points. There many people do not know what it is that they do not know. This CD series will help to alleviate such a situation, and allow one to realize to some degree what it is that right now, they may not even know exists. This series will also aid one to understand the depth and complexities behind scholars coming to their opinions and conclusions. This series increase's the listeners certainty and faith, that the religion they are following is built upon a strong foundation. When semi-knowledgeable, unfounded critics attack the religion, those who have listened to this series will not be easily shaken or misguided like the rest who may not be familiar with usool ul fiqh.

I was disappointed with this CD set, and would not recommend one getting it. The material in here is very basic and common sense. I think it would have been better to put the material in a short book.
